Alstom Invests $55 Million in New Delaware Facility for Amtrak Acela Fleet

Alstom Transportation is expanding its U.S. rail operations with a major investment in Delaware. The company recently acquired a 20.76-acre property in Newark for a new maintenance facility.

The site is located at 1601 Ogletown Road. Notably, the property offers direct access to the Northeast Corridor rail line.

Alstom plans to invest more than $55 million to acquire and upgrade the facility. As a result, the site will play a key role in supporting Amtrak’s NextGen Acela fleet.

Under its agreement with Amtrak, Alstom will construct a dedicated maintenance center on the property. The facility will service up to two trainsets simultaneously.

Additionally, a third outdoor track will provide space for train storage. Consequently, the site will support both maintenance and operational needs.

The project includes the acquisition of an existing 211,678-square-foot industrial building. Rather than constructing an entirely new facility, Alstom plans to repurpose the structure.

The building will serve as a parts distribution center and office space. Meanwhile, new infrastructure will be added to accommodate rail operations.

Alstom purchased the property from Graham Packaging for $25 million. Construction and site improvements are expected to continue over the next several years.

The facility is scheduled to open in summer 2028. Once operational, it will support the long-term maintenance and reliability of Amtrak’s newest high-speed trains.

The investment highlights continued growth along the Northeast Corridor. Furthermore, it reinforces Delaware’s role as an important location for transportation and advanced manufacturing projects.
